The Fax Preference Service (FPS) is a list of individuals and businesses who have registered their wish not to receive unsolicited direct marketing faxes.
It is a legal requirement that companies do not make such calls to numbers registered on the FPS. The original legislation was introduced in May 1999. It was subsequently been updated and now the relevant legislation is the Privacy and Electronic (EC Directive) Regulations 2003. Companies who are reported to the FPS for breach of the above regulation are included in a monthly report sent to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) the body responsible for enforcement.
